Gnocchi
- 1 pound ready-made potato gnocchi
Herb Cream Sauce
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup mixed fresh herbs (parsley, basil, chives), chopped
- 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Lemon zest (optional), from 1 lemon
- Prepare the Gnocchi: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Drop in the gnocchi and cook until they float to the surface, about 2 to 3 minutes. Drain well and set aside, reserving a small amount of the cooking water.
- Start the Herb Cream Sauce: Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, making sure it does not brown.
- Add Cream and Herbs: Pour in the heavy cream and stir gently. Lower the heat and add the chopped fresh herbs, salt, and pepper. Let the sauce simmer for 3 to 5 minutes until flavors meld and the sauce thickens slightly. Add reserved gnocchi water if needed to adjust consistency.
- Combine Gnocchi and Sauce: Gently fold the cooked gnocchi into the sauce, coating each dumpling well. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top and stir until melted and incorporated.
- Final Touches and Serve: Add lemon zest if using, then taste and adjust seasoning. Serve the creamy herb gnocchi hot, directly from the pan.
Notes
- Use fresh herbs for the brightest flavor and aroma.
- Remove gnocchi from boiling water as soon as they float to avoid overcooking.
- Keep a splash of gnocchi water to thin out the sauce if it becomes too thick.
- Simmer sauce gently to prevent curdling of the cream and burning of garlic.
- Grate Parmesan cheese fresh for best melting and flavor.
