Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • Boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts (about 1.5 pounds)
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (optional, for thickening)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Pat the chicken pieces dry with paper towels to help the sauce stick better and to ensure a nice sear. Season lightly with salt and pepper to enhance flavor.
  2. Cook the Chicken: Heat the olive or sesame oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook each side for 4-5 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
  3. Make the Sauce: Reduce the heat to medium, then add minced garlic and optional ginger to the same pan. Sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir in honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar, combining all ingredients. Let the mixture simmer gently.
  4. Thicken the Sauce: If using cornstarch, mix 1 teaspoon with 2 tablespoons of water and stir it into the simmering sauce. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and glazes the pan.
  5. Combine Chicken and Sauce: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet, tossing it in the sticky sauce to coat thoroughly. Cook for another 2 minutes to meld the flavors and coat the chicken in the glossy honey garlic glaze.

Notes

  • Chicken Choice Matters: Thighs stay tender and juicy, but breasts work well if you prefer leaner meat.
  • Don’t Skip Drying: Dry the chicken before cooking to get a better sear and prevent sogginess.
  • Adjust Sweetness: Taste the sauce while cooking and adjust the honey amount to suit your preference.
  • Use Fresh Garlic: Fresh minced garlic gives the best aroma and flavor compared to powder.
  • Serve Immediately: Enjoy the sauce at its stickiest and most flavorful by serving right away.
