Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Yeast Mixture: Warm the milk until comfortably warm but not hot. Sprinkle the active dry yeast and a pinch of sugar over it. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy, indicating the yeast is activated.
  2. Mix the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, beaten egg, and melted butter. Stir until a sticky dough begins to form.
  3. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky but not sticky.
  4. First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Rolls: Punch down the dough and divide into equal-sized balls. Arrange them close together in a greased loaf pan or baking dish.
  6. Second Rise: Cover the rolls and allow them to rise for 30 to 45 minutes until puffy and nearly doubled in size.
  7. Bake to Perfection: Brush the tops with melted butter or egg wash. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  8. Cool and Enjoy: Let rolls cool slightly in the pan before serving. Pull apart bite by bite and savor the warm, fluffy bread.

Notes

  • Measure flour accurately using a kitchen scale or spoon and level method to avoid dense dough.
  • Keep milk at the right temperature — too hot kills yeast, too cold won’t activate it well.
  • Knead until the dough is elastic to develop gluten for perfect texture.
  • Allow full rise times for fluffiness and enhanced flavor.
  • Use fresh yeast to ensure the best rise and texture.
  • Brush with butter before baking adds color and moisture to the crust.
