Philly Cheesesteak Rolls

Philly Cheesesteak Rolls

Philly Cheesesteak Rolls are a quick and easy handheld meal featuring tender, thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin beef, melted provolone or American cheese, and sautéed bell peppers and onions, all wrapped in a toasted hoagie roll. This savory, flavor-packed dish offers a fun twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak, making it perfect for busy weeknights, casual gatherings, or family-friendly dinners.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 8 oz thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin

Vegetables

  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium bell pepper, thinly sliced

Cheese

  • 4 slices provolone or American cheese

Bread

  • 4 hoagie rolls or sandwich buns

Seasonings & Oils

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Sauté the Vegetables: Heat olive oil or butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and bell peppers and cook until soft and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes, to bring out their sweetness and develop the flavor base.
  2. Cook the Steak: Add the thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin to the pan with the sautéed veggies. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook until the beef is browned and tender, stirring occasionally, for approximately 4-5 minutes to ensure even cooking and flavor distribution.
  3. Add the Cheese: Lower the heat and layer your choice of cheese over the cooked meat and vegetables. Cover the pan with a lid to allow the cheese to melt perfectly, creating the signature gooey texture.
  4. Prepare the Rolls: While the cheese melts, lightly toast the hoagie rolls in the oven or toaster until they are crispy on the outside but still soft inside. This prevents sogginess and adds a pleasant crunch.
  5. Assemble the Rolls: Spoon the cheesy beef and vegetable mixture generously into each toasted roll. Serve immediately to enjoy the best texture and warmth.

Notes

  • Slice Meat Thinly: Slightly freeze the beef before slicing for paper-thin pieces that cook quickly and remain tender.
  • Don’t Overcrowd the Pan: Cook steak in batches if necessary to ensure even browning.
  • Cheese Choice Matters: Use cheeses that melt smoothly such as provolone or American for the classic texture.
  • Toast the Bread Well: Toast rolls just enough to be crispy on the outside but soft inside to hold the filling perfectly.
  • Rest Before Serving: Let the assembled rolls rest for a minute so the cheese can set slightly and avoid spilling.
