Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Seasoning

  • 2 boneless chicken breasts (thick, juicy cuts)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt, to taste
  • Ground black pepper, to taste

Buns and Toppings

  • 2 fresh sandwich buns
  • Leafy lettuce leaves (washed)
  • 4 tomato slices
  • Mayonnaise or aioli, as needed
  • Optional: 2 cheese slices (cheddar, pepper jack, or mozzarella)

Optional Variations

  • Cayenne pepper or hot sauce (for spicy marinade)
  • Fresh herbs such as rosemary, thyme, or basil (for herb-infused seasoning)
  • Avocado slices, pickles, or sautéed mushrooms (extra veggies)
  • Lettuce wraps or low-carb buns (for low-carb version)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness for uniform cooking. Brush lightly with olive oil and season generously with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to keep the chicken flavorful and juicy.
  2. Preheat and Oil the Grill: Heat the grill or grill pan to medium-high. Brush the grill grates with oil to prevent sticking, which helps lock in moisture and create appealing grill marks.
  3. Grill the Chicken: Place the chicken on the grill and cook for 5 to 7 minutes on each side until nicely charred and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Transfer to a plate and let rest to retain juices.
  4. Prepare the Buns and Toppings: Slice buns in half and toast them lightly on the grill until golden brown. Wash and slice lettuce and tomatoes. Spread mayonnaise or your preferred sauce on the buns for creaminess.
  5. Build Your Sandwich: Place the grilled chicken on the bottom bun, add cheese slices if using, then top with lettuce and tomato slices. Complete with the top bun and gently press together. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Marinate chicken for at least 30 minutes with olive oil and spices for extra juiciness and flavor.
  • Allow the grilled chicken to rest for 5 minutes before slicing to keep juices inside.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure perfectly cooked chicken without drying it out.
  • Toast buns to add crunch and prevent sogginess from moist ingredients.
  • Place sauce beneath lettuce to keep bread from becoming soggy while maintaining flavor.
