Garlic Bread Grilled Cheese

The Garlic Bread Grilled Cheese combines crispy buttery garlic bread with gooey melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, delivering the ultimate comfort food experience. Quick and easy to make, customizable with different cheeses, proteins, or veggies, it’s perfect for any meal or snack craving with a satisfying crunchy texture and rich flavors.

Ingredients

Bread and Butter Mixture

  • Crusty Italian or French loaf slices (enough for sandwich)
  • Butter, softened (about 4 tablespoons)
  • Fresh garlic cloves, minced (2-3 cloves)
  • Fresh parsley, finely chopped (2 tablespoons)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Cheeses

  • Mozzarella cheese, shredded or sliced (1 cup)
  • Parmesan cheese, grated (1/2 cup)

Optional Add-Ins

  • Crispy bacon slices, grilled chicken, or turkey slices (optional, to taste)
  • Cheddar, provolone, gouda, or pepper jack cheese (if desired for variation)
  • Red pepper flakes (optional for spice)
  • Caramelized onions, roasted bell peppers, or sautéed mushrooms (optional veggies)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Garlic Butter Spread: Mix softened butter with minced garlic, a pinch of salt, pepper, and freshly chopped parsley. This blend infuses the bread with the signature garlic flavor and helps it crisp to a golden finish when grilled.
  2. Spread Butter on the Bread: Generously spread the garlic butter mixture on one side of each bread slice. This will be the side grilled and needs to be buttery enough to toast perfectly crisp without burning.
  3. Assemble Your Sandwich: On the non-buttered sides of the bread, layer mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses evenly, spreading the cheese all the way to the edges for maximum meltiness. Add any optional proteins or veggies if desired.
  4. Grill to Perfection: Preheat a skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwich butter-side down on the skillet. Press gently with a spatula and cook until the bread turns golden brown (about 3-4 minutes). Carefully flip and grill the other side until the cheese is fully melted and the bread crisps up similarly.
  5. Serve Warm: Remove the sandwich from heat and let it cool for a minute before slicing to prevent cheese from escaping, then enjoy your crispy, cheesy garlic bread grilled cheese.

Notes

  • Use room temperature butter for even spreading and consistent crispiness.
  • Cook over low to medium heat to prevent burning and to allow cheese to melt thoroughly.
  • Press gently when grilling to create a solid sandwich without squashing the bread.
  • Experiment with different cheeses for varied textures and flavors.
  • Don’t skip the parsley; it adds brightness that balances the richness perfectly.
