Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 12 Oreo cookies (classic sandwich cookies with a creamy center)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • Vegetable oil, for frying (enough to fill your pot about 2-3 inches deep)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Batter: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, egg, and milk. Whisk until the batter is smooth and thick enough to evenly coat the Oreos and puff up nicely during frying.
  2. Heat the Oil: Pour vegetable oil into a deep pot or fryer to a depth of 2-3 inches and heat to 350°F (175°C). Using a thermometer is recommended to maintain the correct temperature for proper frying.
  3. Coat the Oreos: Dip each Oreo into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated with a thick layer to create a crunchy golden shell once fried.
  4. Fry the Oreos: Carefully place the batter-coated Oreos into the hot oil, frying them in small batches for 2-3 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy, turning if necessary for even cooking.
  5. Drain and Dust: Remove the fried Oreos using a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. While still warm, dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Use a thermometer to maintain oil temperature at 350°F (175°C) for optimal frying.
  • Fry in small batches to avoid overcrowding and temperature drops in the oil.
  • If using refrigerated Oreos, pat them dry before dipping to help the batter adhere better.
  • Prepare batter fresh just before frying to keep it light and airy.
  • Test-fry one Oreo first to ensure correct oil temperature and cook time.
