Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk or buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Cinnamon Swirl Mixture

  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp melted butter

Crumble Topping

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven and Muffin Pan: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease or line a muffin tin with paper liners for easy removal and clean presentation.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and cinnamon to ensure even flavor and leavening distribution.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, beat the melted butter with the eggs, milk (or buttermilk), and vanilla extract until smooth to create a moist batter.
  4. Create the Batter: Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry mixture just until combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the muffins tender and fluffy.
  5. Add Cinnamon Swirl: Mix cinnamon, sugar, and melted butter in a small bowl. Spoon a dollop of the batter into each muffin cup, add a swirl of the cinnamon mixture, then cover with remaining batter for a cinnamon ribbon inside.
  6. Prepare the Crumble Topping: Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, flour, and cold butter pieces; use your fingers or a pastry cutter to create a crumbly mixture. Sprinkle generously over each muffin.
  7. Bake: Bake the muffins for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Avoid opening the oven early to ensure even rising.
  8. Cool and Enjoy: Let the muffins cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to set and keep the topping crisp.

Notes

  • Use room temperature eggs and milk for better mixing and a fluffier texture.
  • Do not overmix the batter to avoid tough or dense muffins.
  • Swirl the cinnamon mixture gently with a toothpick or knife for a marbled effect.
  • Spoon flour into measuring cups instead of scooping to keep flour light and muffins tender.
  • Check oven temperature accuracy with a thermometer for best baking results.
