Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cinnamon Swirl Filling

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Optional

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • Chopped pecans or walnuts (for nutty twist)
  • Melted chocolate for drizzle

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Cream together the softened unsalted butter with granulated and brown sugars until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing thoroughly until smooth and fully combined to form the wet base.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until a soft dough forms.
  3. Create the Cinnamon Swirl: Mix additional softened butter with brown sugar and cinnamon to make the swirl filling. Roll half of the cookie dough into a rectangle, spread the cinnamon mixture evenly over it, then roll the other half of the dough on top. Slice gently into rounds to reveal the distinct cinnamon swirl pattern.
  4. Bake to Perfection: Place the cookie rounds on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them evenly. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-12 minutes, or until edges turn slightly golden while centers remain soft. Allow cookies to cool before serving.

Notes

  • Use room temperature butter to ensure even mixing and an optimal texture.
  • Avoid overmixing the dough to prevent tough cookies.
  • If the dough is too sticky to handle, chill it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  • Adjust the cinnamon quantity to taste, depending on how strong you prefer the spice.
  • Watch the bake time carefully; slightly underbaking keeps cookies soft and chewy.
