Chocolate Pecan Pie

Chocolate Pecan Pie

Chocolate Pecan Pie is a classic dessert that perfectly blends rich semisweet chocolate and crunchy toasted pecans in a smooth, custard-like filling within a flaky pie crust. This decadent yet simple-to-make pie offers a delightful balance of sweetness and nuttiness, making it ideal for holidays, special occasions, or any time you crave a luscious treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Pie Crust

  • 1 9-inch flaky pie crust (pre-made or homemade)

Filling

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups pecans, toasted

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Pie Crust: Place your pie crust in a 9-inch pie pan, gently pressing it down to fit snugly without tears. Prick the bottom with a fork to prevent air bubbles during baking.
  2. Toast the Pecans: Toast the pecans in a dry skillet over medium heat for 4–5 minutes, stirring constantly to avoid burning. This enhances their natural nutty flavor and adds crunch to the pie.
  3. Make the Filling: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, brown sugar, corn syrup, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Fold in the chocolate chips to meld the chocolate seamlessly into the mixture.
  4. Assemble the Pie: Pour the filling mixture into the prepared pie crust. Evenly spread the toasted pecans on top, pressing them lightly so they stay in place during baking.
  5. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the pie for 50–60 minutes. To prevent over-browning, tent the edges with foil about halfway through baking. The pie is done when the filling is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
  6. Cool Fully: Allow the Chocolate Pecan Pie to cool completely at room temperature. This step is crucial for the filling to firm up, making slicing clean and easy.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients to ensure smooth blending and even cooking of the filling.
  • Don’t skip toasting the pecans; it unlocks deeper flavor and enhances texture.
  • Watch the baking time closely: underbaking results in runny filling, overbaking dries it out.
  • Use high-quality chocolate chips or chop a quality chocolate bar for best flavor.
  • Let the pie cool completely before slicing to prevent a soupy filling and to allow sugars to set perfectly.
