Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 200g quality dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa)
  • 150g unsalted butter
  • 200g granulated sugar
  • 3 free-range eggs
  • 125g all-purpose flour
  • Zest of 1 large fresh orange
  • 150g mincemeat filling
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare your baking pan and ingredients: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a square baking tin with parchment paper for easy removal. Gather and measure all ingredients, zesting the orange freshly to maximize flavor.
  2. Melt the chocolate and butter: Gently melt the dark chocolate and unsalted butter together in a heatproof bowl over simmering water, stirring until smooth and glossy. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Mix wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and granulated sugar until pale and fluffy. Add the melted chocolate and butter mixture, stirring until fully combined. Fold in vanilla extract and fresh orange zest.
  4. Incorporate dry ingredients: Sift together the all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, and salt. Gradually fold the dry mixture into the wet ingredients, being careful not to overmix to maintain a tender crumb.
  5. Add the mince pie filling: Gently fold in generous spoonfuls of mincemeat, distributing it evenly without fully blending it in to create pockets of spiced fruit throughout the batter.
  6. Bake to fudgy perfection: Pour the batter into the prepared baking tin and smooth the surface. Bake for 25–30 minutes, testing with a toothpick near the center; it should come out with moist crumbs but no wet batter.
  7. Cool and enjoy: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the tin before slicing. This helps them set properly and allows clean cuts that showcase the beautiful swirl of chocolate, orange, and mincemeat.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate: It significantly improves flavor and texture.
  • Don’t overbake: Remove brownies as soon as they are set to keep them soft and fudgy.
  • Zest before juicing: Helps preserve bright citrus aroma.
  • Room temperature eggs: Create a smoother batter for even baking.
  • Swirl, don’t mix: Folding in mincemeat gently gives delightful bursts of spiced fruit.
