A creamy, flavorful Cheesy Ranch Sausage & Potato Bake combining hearty sausage, tender potatoes, and melted cheese for a comforting, easy-to-make meal perfect for family dinners or meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale

Potatoes

  • 34 medium Yukon Gold or red potatoes, thinly sliced

Sausage Mixture

  • 1 lb ground sausage (pork, turkey, or plant-based)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix (about 1 oz)
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Cheese

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Garnish (optional)

  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prep the Potatoes: Wash and thinly slice Yukon Gold or red potatoes evenly to ensure uniform cooking. Set aside.
  2. Cook the Sausage and Aromatics: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground sausage. Add finely chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until soft and fragrant to build the flavor base.
  3. Combine Ingredients With Ranch Seasoning: Sprinkle ranch seasoning mix over the sausage mixture, then pour in heavy cream. Stir well to combine and let simmer for a few minutes to meld flavors.
  4. Layer the Bake: Grease a baking dish. Alternate layers of sliced potatoes, sausage mixture, and shredded cheese. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a cheese layer on top.
  5. Bake Until Golden and Bubbling: Place the baking dish in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) and bake for 35-40 minutes, until potatoes are tender and cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Let the bake cool for about 10 minutes before garnishing with fresh parsley if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Slice potatoes thinly and evenly for perfect cooking and layering.
  • Use full-fat heavy cream and cheese for richest texture and flavor.
  • Brown sausage in batches to avoid overcrowding and ensure better flavor.
  • Let the bake rest 10 minutes before serving to set and make slicing easier.
  • For extra gooeyness, split cheese between layers and top layer.
  • Can substitute sausage with mushrooms or plant-based sausage for a vegetarian version.
  • Add jalapeños or red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
  • Use non-dairy cheese and cream substitutes for a dairy-free option.
  • Store leftovers in airtight container in refrigerator up to 3-4 days; freeze up to 2 months.
  • Reheat in oven at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes for best texture.
