Customizable with vegetables, herbs, and gluten-free options, it’s a versatile recipe that warms and nourishes with every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef and Meat

  • 1 to 1.5 pounds chuck roast or stew meat, cut into bite-sized pieces

Noodles

  • 8 ounces wide or medium egg noodles

Aromatics and Seasonings

  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Liquids and Fats

  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons butter or oil

Thickening Agent

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour or cornstarch (for gluten-free)

Optional Garnishes and Additions

  • Fresh parsley or chives, chopped
  • Grated parmesan cheese
  • Mushrooms, carrots, peas (for vegetable boost)
  • Fresh thyme, rosemary, or parsley (for herb infusion)
  • Red pepper flakes or hot sauce (for spicy kick)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef: Pat the beef dry and cut into bite-sized pieces. Heat butter or oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the beef on all sides to lock in savory juices.
  2. Sauté Aromatics: Remove the beef and in the same pan add chopped onions and optional garlic. Cook until onions are softened and golden, creating a flavorful sauce base.
  3. Build the Sauce: Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir well to form a roux. Gradually whisk in beef broth, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Let the sauce simmer until it thickens.
  4. Combine Beef and Noodles: Return browned beef to the pan and simmer gently until tender, about 20–30 minutes. Meanwhile, cook egg noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and add noodles directly into the beef mixture, stirring to coat evenly.
  5. Final Seasoning and Serve: Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper. Serve hot, optionally garnished with fresh herbs or grated parmesan for added color and flavor.

Notes

  • Brown beef thoroughly to develop rich flavor and a beautiful crust.
  • Cook noodles just until al dente to avoid mushiness when mixed with sauce.
  • Use fresh homemade or high-quality store-bought beef broth for deeper flavor.
  • Skim excess fat from broth for a cleaner sauce.
  • Let the dish rest a few minutes off heat before serving to meld flavors.
