Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 8 oz beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari/coconut aminos for gluten-free)
  • 1/2 cup beef broth (or water; vegetable broth for vegan)
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated or finely minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar or honey
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef and Broccoli: Slice beef thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness. Chop broccoli into bite-sized florets and rinse under cold water to keep crispness.
  2. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, grated garlic, ginger, and cornstarch until smooth. This will form the flavorful thickening sauce.
  3. Cook the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Stir-fry the beef for 2-3 minutes until nicely seared but still juicy. Remove beef from the pan and set aside to avoid overcooking.
  4. Cook the Broccoli: In the same pan, add a splash of oil if needed. Stir-fry broccoli for 3-4 minutes until crisp-tender and bright green in color.
  5. Combine and Finish: Return the cooked beef to the pan with broccoli. Pour the prepared sauce over the mixture and stir continuously for about 2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the ingredients evenly.

Notes

  • Use high heat to quickly sear beef and retain broccoli’s crunch.
  • Thinly slice beef against the grain for faster cooking and tenderness.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary for even browning.
  • Prep all ingredients before starting as stir-frying is a fast process.
  • Adjust sauce thickness by adding more cornstarch slurry or broth to suit your preference.
  • Garnish with toasted sesame seeds or chopped green onions for extra flavor and texture.
  • Serve over steamed jasmine rice, brown rice, cauliflower rice, or in lettuce cups for variety.
