Ingredients

Scale

Filling Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh apples (peeled, cored, and finely chopped) – Granny Smith or Honeycrisp preferred
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (or granulated sugar)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Pastry Ingredients

  • 1 sheet store-bought puff pastry, thawed
  • Egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water) – optional for golden glaze

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apple Filling: Peel, core, and finely chop the apples into small pieces. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and add the chopped apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens and the apples soften but still hold their shape, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  2. Cut and Fill the Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet. Cut the sheet into evenly sized squares, approximately 3×3 inches. Spoon a small amount of the apple filling onto the center of each square, leaving space around the edges for sealing.
  3. Seal the Pastry Pockets: Lightly moisten the edges of each pastry square with water. Fold the pastry over to form a triangle or rectangle and press the edges firmly with a fork to seal. For a classic look, gently crimp the edges.
  4. Apply Egg Wash and Air Fry: If desired, brush the tops of each pastry pocket with egg wash for a golden finish. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Arrange the snacks in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overcrowding. Cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.
  5. Cool and Enjoy: Remove the apple pie snacks from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes to allow the filling to set before serving.

Notes

  • Chop apples into uniform, small pieces to ensure even cooking and prevent sogginess.
  • Do not overfill the pastry pockets to avoid leaks and sogginess during air frying.
  • Cook the snacks in a single layer without stacking for even crispiness.
  • Preheat your air fryer to achieve a faster, golden crust.
  • Allow snacks to cool completely before storing to prevent condensation and sogginess.
